We’re in the PICU at CHOP. We just met with all the doctors and nurses for morning rounds and just spoke with the neurosurgeon. Julia has a mass at the base of her brain that is causing bleeding. The mass is situated around her c1 vertebrae. It is compressing her spinal cord a bit as well. At this point no one knows what it is. The neurology team straight up said the MRI is unusual and it’s not presenting “obviously” like the majority of cases do. There are a ton of doctors talking about her case now. She’s still fully sedated with a breathing tube. Today they will be doing some more invasive tests - lumbar puncture and biopsy are first up. They are watching the pressure in her brain and may have to do something to relieve it. Everything is still on the table: infection, autoimmune disease, tumor, cancer, etc.
